WOW2018

On the 26th January 2018, the Northern School of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine (NSAICM) Trainee Committee held its first ‘Working Out Wellbeing’ (WOW) day – a free training day devoted to issues affecting the health and wellbeing of its anaesthetic and intensive care doctors and practitioners of all grades. This was a project borne out of concern at growing reports of fatigue and poor morale among anaesthetists locally and nationally.

With research showing the multiple benefits of promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace, the Committee were keen to deliver a positive day which would leave delegates better equipped with knowledge and skills to improve their wellbeing and work-life balance around a notoriously demanding career.

We’re pleased to report that the day was a resounding success, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from all involved. We are already planning for WOW 2019 and are passionate that the day should continue to develop to serve the wellbeing needs of our anaesthetic and intensive care staff. After all, if we don’t look after ourselves, how can we hope to look after our patients?

‘Fantastic day. Well organised, very good range of topics covered.’
